Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) Fung Yiu King Hospital (FYKH) is an extended care hospital specializing in geriatric service. It provides rehabilitation and convalescence for medical and orthopaedic patients. It also provides community outreach service through its community geriatric assessment team. The total bed number (as at 31 March 1999) is 296. The units in FYKH are Geriatrics and medical Unit (80 beds), Geriatrics Rehabilitation Unit (16 beds), Ortho-geriatric Rehabilitation Unit (8 beds), Infirmary (80 beds) Orthopaedic & Traumatology Unit (112 beds) and Geriatric Day Hospital (22 places). Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietetic service, pharmacy, X-ray, podiatry, medical social service and prosthetics and orthotics service are available to provide multidisciplinary rehabilitation to elderly patients.

The Geriatric Day Hospital serves the whole HKW cluster and it has 22 places. Patients come from discharged inpatients, Specialist Outpatient Clinic, elderly living in institutions, elderly living at home, Queen Mary Hospital and Geriatric Units of other hospitals. The Geriatric Day Hospital incorporates the Continence Clinic, Elderly Assessment Clinic, C & A Homes Pre-admission Clinic, Nursing Home Pre-admission Clinic, Infirmary Assessment Clinic and Elderly Health Resources Center. The continence clinic provides consultation and urodynamic study for inpatients and outside referrals. The Elderly Assessment Clinic provides assessment to elderly patients referred from institutions and the community.

The community outreach service mainly provides medical consultation, assessment and education. Medical consultation is provided to Care and Attention Homes and Private Old Age Homes. Assessment service includes pre-admission assessment for Nursing Homes, pre-admission assessment for Care and Attention Homes and assessment for clients on the Central Infirmary Waiting List. Education and training are provided for carers of elderly. The community outreach team also collaborates with Non-government Organization and Community Nursing Service in providing seamless health care to high risk elderly living in the community. The Hong Kong West (HKW) Community Geriatric Assessment Team comprises doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and social workers.

The Geriatrics Outpatient Clinic is situated in S Block of Queen Mary Hospital. Patients in the clinic are seen by the Hong Kong West Geriatrics Service Team which is made up of geriatricians from QMH and FYKH.

An Elderly Health Resource Centre and 24-hour "Services for the Elderly" telephone hotline (2872 5666) has been established to enhance health education and promotion to carers and patients.

"Friends of Fung Yiu King Hospital" voluntary service group organizes activities for hospital patients and promotes community participation and partnership with the hospital.
